TRNC Tax Office Online Payment Guide
Short answer: You can access the TRNC Tax Office online system through the official Internet Tax Office login on the Revenue and Tax Department website. The portal is used for debt inquiry, assessment review, card payments, road tax and vehicle inspection fees, and declared taxes such as rent withholding.
This guide is written for people who own a home, rent out a property, drive a registered vehicle or hold a tax registration in Northern Cyprus. It explains how to enter the official system, what can be paid online and how to read deadlines without relying on unofficial pages. If your main concern is the recurring cost of owning property, you may also find our TRNC property tax guide useful.
Where do you enter the TRNC Tax Office Online system?
The safest starting point is the official Revenue and Tax Department website at vergi.gov.ct.tr. On the home page, the Internet Tax Office section provides access to password-protected and non-password services. The same page also lists quick-access options such as debt inquiry and payment, electronic notification, taxpayer feedback and reporting.
Always check the address bar before typing personal or card details. The official domain should carry the gov.ct.tr extension. This is especially important for road tax payments, because look-alike websites may appear in search results. For vehicle inspection, road tax and transport-related announcements, follow the relevant official institutional notices; when you make a card payment, make sure the payment screen remains under the Tax Office’s official online domain.
Password login is mainly for taxpayers and authorised users. According to the Tax Office announcement, usernames and passwords are obtained from the Revenue and Tax Department. Non-password screens may still ask for a tax number, vehicle plate, identity information or assessment reference, depending on the payment type. Read every field carefully before approving a payment.
How do debt inquiry and payment steps work?
The exact path depends on the type of debt. A registered taxpayer may need a username and password, while a vehicle-related payment may progress through the plate number and vehicle details. In practice, the flow is usually simple:
- Open the official Revenue and Tax Department website.
- Select the Internet Tax Office or the debt inquiry and payment link.
- Enter the requested details, such as tax number, identity number, plate number or taxpayer code.
- Check the debt type, tax period, amount and explanation before paying.
- Enter card details only if the page is still under the official Tax Office domain.
- Download or save the payment receipt after the transaction is completed.
Before paying, make sure you understand what the system is showing. Rent withholding, road tax, value added tax, income tax and property transfer-related taxes are different items. Choosing the wrong period or assessment may later require a correction request. For rental income, our TRNC rental income tax guide gives more context for landlords.
Which payments can be made online?
Tax Office announcements state that return-related procedures such as value added tax, rental income, wage-related transactions, bank and insurance transactions tax and withholding declarations can be handled online. The Tax Office has also stated that collection procedures for assessments made through the Internet Tax Office or physical tax offices can be paid through the system.
For vehicles, online card payment is available for road tax, inspection fees and overseas exit fees. The amount is not a single flat figure for every vehicle. Road tax may depend on the vehicle’s class, weight, registration status and the applicable legal rules. For that reason, the safest payable figure is the amount calculated for your own vehicle on the official payment screen.
| Transaction | What to check online | Practical note |
|---|---|---|
| Road tax | Plate, vehicle details, period and debt amount | Do not enter card details outside the official domain. |
| Vehicle inspection fee | Inspection period, vehicle information and receipt | Follow police or relevant institutional notices for inspection requirements. |
| Rent withholding | Rental period, declaration, gross rent and currency | Rates and deadlines should be checked against Tax Office publications. |
| VAT and other declarations | Declaration period, assessment and amount payable | Confirm the period with your accountant or authorised user. |
| General tax debt | Assessment, late-payment surcharge and older periods | Read which period the debt belongs to before paying. |
Can rent withholding be paid online?
Rent withholding is one of the most common tax items for landlords in Northern Cyprus. In the Tax Office payment calendar, rent withholding appears under monthly declarations. The calendar shows both the declaration and payment date as the 15th day of the month following the tax period. Because official calendars can change, check the Tax Calendar and Circulars page before acting.
The withholding rate may also depend on the currency of the rent. In the rent income and withholding decree published on the Tax Office website, immovable property rent in foreign currency is shown with a 13 percent withholding rate on gross income, while rent in Turkish lira is shown with an 8 percent rate. These figures are based on the published decree; if a newer decree is issued, the current official text should be followed.
Online payment does not replace the need for a correctly prepared rental agreement, stamp duty handling, payment evidence and record keeping. If you are preparing a lease in Iskele, Famagusta, Kyrenia or Nicosia, read the contract clauses before the first payment is made. Our Cyprus rental agreement guide can help you organise those documents.
What should you do about late payment, wrong payment and receipts?
The most common problem is missing a due date. The Tax Office home page states that, from 1 September 2024, late-payment surcharge rates for Turkish lira public receivables were set at 5 percent for the first month and 4 percent for each following month. These rates may change by new decision, so the current amount shown on the official screen should be treated as the payable amount for overdue debts.
If you think you paid the wrong item, do not delete the receipt or close your records. Contact the relevant tax office with the transaction number, date, amount, card approval information and the taxpayer or vehicle details. A correction depends on where the payment was allocated. For property purchases, taxes, stamp duty, title deed costs and other expenses can overlap; our Cyprus home-buying cost guide explains the wider cost picture.
A practical checklist for homeowners and investors
If you own or plan to rent out a home in Northern Cyprus, tax follow-up should be part of your monthly routine. This is particularly useful in areas with active rental markets such as Iskele Long Beach, Famagusta, Kyrenia and Nicosia. Keep the lease, rent receipts, withholding payments, municipal property tax and site fees in separate folders.
- Write the lease date, currency and gross rent clearly in the agreement.
- Keep each rent payment record, preferably through bank documentation.
- Add the 15th day of the following month to your calendar for rent withholding checks.
- Review online Tax Office debts by period, not only by total amount.
- Use only official gov.ct.tr domains for vehicle-related payments.
- Save receipts by year and transaction type.
- If a rate, deadline or fee is unclear, ask the Revenue and Tax Department or your accountant before paying.
Frequently asked questions
Where do I get a TRNC Tax Office online password?
According to the Tax Office announcement, usernames and passwords are obtained from the Revenue and Tax Department. If an accountant or auditor will act for you, the authority setup should also be properly arranged.
Is road tax paid through the Tax Office website?
Yes. For road tax, vehicle inspection fees and similar vehicle-related payments, check the domain before entering card details. The payable amount is calculated on the official screen according to your vehicle and payment period.
Who pays rent withholding in Northern Cyprus?
The answer may depend on the lease type, the parties and the tax status of the transaction. The published rent withholding decree refers to payment to the Revenue and Tax Department by owners of the property rights or their representatives. For your own contract, confirm the correct treatment with the Tax Office or a qualified accountant.
Is the online receipt enough?
The online receipt is the core proof of payment, but some procedures also require a declaration, stamped contract, inspection document, title deed file or other supporting records. Keep the receipt, but also check the full document requirement for the transaction.
